The vision for LightTrack began in the winter of 2025. Will Tran and Alex Mendoza, two lifelong runners who first met as teammates on the Piner High School Cross Country and Track teams, were swapping stories about the frustrations of traditional pacing.
Watching the revolutionary Wavelight systems transform professional track and field, they were inspired. But they knew that level of absolute, visual precision shouldn't be reserved only for Diamond League elites. High schoolers, local clubs, colleges, and dedicated amateurs grinding through workouts, trying to hit time standards, and chasing records needed it just as much. Alex coined the name "LightTrack," and the concept to bring light pacing technology to the everyday track was born.
Combining his background as a runner with hands-on hardware engineering, Will designed the system from the ground up. From writing the embedded C++ code and wiring the controllers to 3D-printing the prototype components, he spent countless hours in the workshop ensuring the technology could be realized. First showcased at a local college meet, the system continues to evolve through constant track-side iteration.
Today, LightTrack is more than just a piece of technology. It’s a precision tool engineered by runners, for runners, designed to help you hit exactly the split you need, every single time.
